NZ Super Fund chief executive Matt Whineray has been at pains since he was confirmed in the top job mid-year to point up what goes up can also go down.

He’s pointing of course to the Super Fund’s returns, which are among the top performers of sovereign wealth funds globally at 10.4% a year since its inception in 2003.

In the fund’s 2018 annual report tabled today, the chief executive has written an overview on understanding the difference between volatility and risk as global growth starts to decelerate.
