Monitoring
Given the scale of our segregated listed securities portfolios, we use specialist screening services to help identify and prioritise ESG issues.
We have also selected thematic ESG issues to help prioritise monitoring and other sustainable investment activities. Our current ESG priority issues are:
- severe environmental damage;
- climate change;
- human rights (including health and safety); and
- bribery and corruption.
Companies that raise significant ESG concerns may be added to our Global Focus List, where we prioritise and track the ESG issues of concern and consider the companies for further action. The test we apply for including companies on our Global Focus List is set out in our Sustainable Investment Procedures.
Investee companies are identified for inclusion on our Global Focus List through:
-
ratings given to the investee companies by external ESG research providers.
-
Our Sustainable Investment Team carrying out additional research and analysis of investee companies in certain circumstances.
We undertake portfolio monitoring on a six-monthly basis and will respond to event-driven issues as they arise.
We have other systems for monitoring ESG issues arising in other asset classes. These vary depending on the nature and context of the asset class and particular investment.
