The Super Fund is really focused on New Zealand's future and what we can do for future generations.

So more or less, we've got ageing demographics. So there's going to be higher tax costs for the pension in the future. Sir Michael Cullen had an idea about 20 years ago to invest now to help smooth out that burden.

So when I first joined the Super Fund I felt super welcomed by not only my team, but the whole Fund.

That's because I think just in general the culture here is really good, and everyone's very warm, welcoming and really approachable.

I'm from Dunedin, I didn't really know anyone in Auckland, so actually coming up here and making friends with people my age, doing the same sort of work was simply fantastic, yeah.

The team was very supportive. I felt very welcome and I think it was easy for me to kind of adapt to the work life.

So in our first week, we got to have a lunch with the CEO. I don't think a lot of people get the chance or the opportunity to.

It was nice like making real connections with them as human beings first and then around them in their careers. So it was nice to know I could be myself.

So we have this neighbourhood thing. It's like a hot desking system, so people can very flexibly come into office whenever they want.

If you have something that you have to come in office to, you can just work from home, like in the morning and then come in the office, just like today.

But also on top of that, if you had a doctor's appointment or something urgent come up, everyone's more than happy to help accommodate that.

So here at the Super Fund, we have a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy, which consists of eight different goals.

And so part of my project has been learning how to implement that strategy into the organisation.

I've been going around and asking advice from people, whether it's through coffee, one on one catch ups, and just in person going up to their desk.

If I wanted to go and learn about someone else's role, I felt comfortable enough to go out and just reach out to them and learn about what they do here at the Fund.

Interns are given a lot of responsibility and independence to complete their own tasks. That allows us to have a lot of creativity in the things that we do.

They give me an outline of what I'm trying to do, a bit of background on it and then just let me go at it, which has been quite fun.

My manager's allowed me to lead meetings and she's given me the autonomy to solve things and get creative on my own to solve these problems.

I've also gotten the chance to shadow my manager in a lot of meetings beyond my own work, which has allowed me to gain a broader understanding of what he does.

For me, the most rewarding aspect of contributing to the Super Fund is knowing that the work I'm putting in this summer is going to have a lasting effect for generations to come.

You don't ever really have to worry about, 'Oh, am I actually contributing?', you know you are.

Hi I'm Gabby and I work in the Strategic Tilting team.

I've had many training and development opportunities that are offered by the HR team and I've taken advantage of a lot of those.

I've had the privilege of joining the Strategic Tilting team after previously being in the HR team and training and development allowed me to move from one team into the other.

When I moved into the Investments team, I had no previous financial market experience and this was understood in the recruitment process, so my team was willing to train me and develop me in any gaps that i might have.

Training and development offered at the Guardians has helped me improve my confidence, my public speaking, as well as increase my knowledge of financial markets and economics.

Every six months at the Guardians, we go through our individual development plans.

I've sat down with my manager and talked about where I would like to be in 3 to 5 years and I felt supported throughout that journey.

I'm looking forward to growing in my role and I've developed both personally and professionally in my time here.

I chose to work for the Guardians for a number of different reasons but the things I think are key are, our culture and our values are very strong and i think it's very established that we know when we come to work how we're expected to behave and how we will be treated in return.

Another reason I chose to work for The Guardians is the work that we do. So on an international scale we're actually quite unique but in New Zealand we're very unique in terms of our size and our mandate and the long term horizon so we're always doing something different, something interesting and I find it challenging and have lot of opportunities to learn and continue to learn.

So the decision I made to work for the Guardians nine and a half years ago was one of the best I've ever made and I continue to be challenged and interested and enjoy my job.

In a market-facing capacity I have oversight for a portfolio of relationships, managers and investments.

And within that you end up with quite a broad set of activity which is everything from being involved with the investment strategy through to what we call search and selection of managers or access points, through to the ongoing investment management and in my case, through to governance which is being on the board of one of our investee companies.

So one other thing I love about working at the Guardians is it allows me to be me.

I think about when I first joined it was definitely evident in the leadership, where people were effectively allowed to be their authentic selves and I think that has played through and certainly for myself, it's valuable because you can run the risk at times where you leave part of yourself at home and personally, I feel this is a place where I will bring all of myself to work which is pretty cool.

What makes it special working at the Guardians is, first we have a diverse workforce, working here, being able to work with people from different cultures, backgrounds and experiences.

Secondly, the company culture. People here are very talented, supportive, and everyone cares about each other.

And lastly and most specially is the Guardians' purpose, which is working towards the future of New Zealanders.
