NZSF Chief Executive - Job Advertisement
POSTED ON: 30 March 2018
The job advertisement for the role of Chief Executive of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund has been released.
Chief Executive New Zealand Superannuation Fund
The Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation (Guardians) is an autonomous Crown entity, established to manage the New Zealand Superannuation Fund (NZSF), a $38b sovereign wealth fund investing globally. The purpose of the NZSF is to help smooth of the cost of superannuation between today’s taxpayers and future generations. While the NZSF’s assets are owned by the Crown, the Guardians operates on a purely commercial basis at double arm’s length from the Government.
Since inception the NZSF has returned more than 10% p.a. (after costs, before NZ tax) and has generated $7 billion in value over and above its passive benchmark. While 85% of NZSF is invested globally, it has around $5 billion invested in New Zealand, making it a major presence in the domestic capital markets.
The Guardians is a long-term, growth-oriented investor with a contrarian, opportunistic approach to active investment. NZSF investments are managed through external managers as well as directly by the Guardians’ Auckland-based team. The Guardians is acknowledged as a global leader in investment practice and has received recognition internationally for its performance, transparency, innovation, governance, public reporting and approach to responsible investment.
The Guardians seeks to appoint a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead a high calibre, diverse workforce of approximately 130 people, including 55 investment professionals. This role is unique in New Zealand.
The CEO will lead the development and implementation of NZSF’s investment strategies and portfolio in accordance with the Guardians’ statutory mandate to invest the NZSF on a prudent, commercial basis, consistent with: best practice portfolio management; maximising return without undue risk to the NZSF as a whole; and avoiding prejudice to New Zealand’s reputation as a responsible member of the world community.
With substantial experience in international investment, the CEO will bring a detailed understanding of the workings of investment markets and global best practice portfolio management. S/he will be able to demonstrate a commitment to workplace culture development and significant expertise in investment and enterprise risk management.
This is a high-profile role with a high level of Parliamentary and media scrutiny. S/he will have the gravitas and personal presence to represent the NZSF in New Zealand and internationally.
